2. Gameplay changes

2.1 Stun. Why stun in a fast paced shooter like Warsow which one of the key features is "the art of movement"? With the decision to introduce the ‘stun’ what are you opinions on this ground breaking change to warsow game play? (pros / cons)

jal: One of the main goals we seek with 0.5 is to recover proper gameplay balance in Warsow. Warsow is a FPS, and as FPS it must have a proper share of aim, -understood as effectivity of using weapons-, in the gameplay cocktail. We've found over the years that the extreme freedom of movement in Warsow had several drawbacks on the gameplay, as the chaos the continuous use of walljumping added to fights, or the difficulty to chase a running away player. Stun is introduced to decrease the influence of walljumping on these, which will move the accent a little into actual fighting skills and item control.

Vic: I think you should ask yourself whether stun makes "the art of movement" in Warsow less of an art. I think the answer to this question is no. I think it introduces a new balancing dimension into a movement system of the game, making it more of an art than ever.

2.2 Weapon tweakes. Could you sum up which were the core weapon tweaks and the reasons why there were made?

jal: Weapon changes are all in one direction: Make the weapons more powerful. It's part of the aim/movement balancing I mentioned in the previous question. They are also changed so the average fighting range is moved away from the player. This is a good point FFmod showed us, but, of course, it's made in a much smaller scale as it's done at FFmod.

Well, maps would last longer if e.g. jumpheight and other tricks wouldn't be changed with each version

"Vic: To be honest, I've never quite understood why if you're a CA player, you can't play duel or if you're a dueler, you can't play CTF and so on."

Well, it never was a problem in 0.3, but it started to become a problem with the introduction of newmovement.

If you want to compete in duel, you are forced to use the new one, if you want casual fun in CA, you need to use the old one. Switching really sux and it's that has driven me away from wsw.

"..If you want to compete in duel, you are forced to use the new one.."

what the fuck are you talking about?

Okay, maybe that was badly put. One can probably compete just as good, but alone having the choice always leaves doubt, as to whether one is missing out on opportunities to turn some corner faster, etc. I hate being forced to chose over fundamental game mechanics.

Having two sets of movements to chose from is still bad design, whether it'S 0.4 or 0.5 :/

But I don't want to start a discussion here, I won't like 0.5 anyways, so it's pointless.

GL for the future, warsow, I'm out.
