3. Media

3.1 Which are the new maps you would like to see in competitions?
jal: I love the changes made to wdm14 and wdm15. The new wdm2 is a great duel map too. I hope those three become part of all future duel mappools.

Vic: dm14. I think this map was a tough nut to crack but I love it now.

3.2 Who is mapping for Warsow in 0.5?
jal: bLx, 36, Grumx, Cervix, Crizis and myself have all contributed to 0.5 maps.

3.3 With the gametype plugins coming around the corner do you think maps will be the top problem to have a complete new gameplay experience?
jal: Not really. Some gametypes might require specific maps, while others not. Maps are downloadable from servers anyway, so no problem.

Vic: With the introduction of support for Q1 and Q2 maps in Warsow the map pool available for experimentation became immensely diverse. Not that all of these maps are playable gameplay wise, of course, but I think it's an interesting concept. I also think it's only a matter of time before support for CS maps is added, all key components are already there...

3.4 Mapping is a lot of work and good mappers need a lot of gameplay tests to bring their work to perfection. I think for a mapper it's very tough to change maps after recent changes over and over again. Are you confident with the community's input and the work inside the mapping section of Warsow dev team? What could be improved?
jal: Well, updating wouldn't suppose a problem if mappers didn't forget to upload their sources more frequently. We have been forced to remove some maps from 0.5 list because they were outdated and the mapper wasn't available anymore. We have all sources of the current list so it should be sorted out for the future, hopefully. That's the only real problem we ever had. Our mappers have always understood gameplay well enough to see the needs of the comunity and know how to use their feedback. At least I think the percentage of maps with proper gameplay at Warsow maplist is exceptionally high compared to any other game of the same type.

Well, maps would last longer if e.g. jumpheight and other tricks wouldn't be changed with each version

"Vic: To be honest, I've never quite understood why if you're a CA player, you can't play duel or if you're a dueler, you can't play CTF and so on."

Well, it never was a problem in 0.3, but it started to become a problem with the introduction of newmovement.

If you want to compete in duel, you are forced to use the new one, if you want casual fun in CA, you need to use the old one. Switching really sux and it's that has driven me away from wsw.

"..If you want to compete in duel, you are forced to use the new one.."

what the fuck are you talking about?
By makkE @ Monday, July 13, 2009 10:27 AM
Okay, maybe that was badly put. One can probably compete just as good, but alone having the choice always leaves doubt, as to whether one is missing out on opportunities to turn some corner faster, etc. I hate being forced to chose over fundamental game mechanics.

Having two sets of movements to chose from is still bad design, whether it'S 0.4 or 0.5 :/

But I don't want to start a discussion here, I won't like 0.5 anyways, so it's pointless.

GL for the future, warsow, I'm out.
